FTAlert is a receive-only macOS alert companion for WSJT-X and MSHV. Start below with a one-minute setup, then check the FAQ and troubleshooting.
Quick start
Install FTAlert from the Mac App Store
Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Works on Apple silicon and Intel.
Point FTAlert at your digital-mode app
Open Settings and choose your UDP source. The default is MSHV on
127.0.0.1:2237. For WSJT-X, use 127.0.0.1:2233.
Enable decode forwarding in your app
In MSHV, enable Network → UDP Broadcast → Enable Decoded Text
and point its server/port to 127.0.0.1:2237. WSJT-X broadcasts decodes
to port 2233 by default.
Import your ADIF log
Use File → Import ADIF so FTAlert can detect new DXCC and worked-before (B4) decodes.
Choose your alerts
Enable the alerts and wanted lists you care about. FTAlert watches every decode from then on.
FAQ
Which apps and modes are supported?
WSJT-X and MSHV on the receive side — FT8, FT4 and the other modes they decode. FTAlert does not transmit or control your rig.
What alerts does FTAlert provide?
Your own call, CQ, wanted DXCC (including all-time-new-one), worked-before/current-band (B4), POTA, SOTA, wanted callsigns, and directed CQ word lists.
How do I change the UDP port?
Open Settings and select your app source under the UDP Source section. The port must match the one your digital-mode app is configured to broadcast to.
Why am I not seeing any decodes?
Confirm decode forwarding is enabled in WSJT-X or MSHV, that the port matches FTAlert's setting, and that both apps are on the same Mac (localhost). See troubleshooting below.
Does FTAlert upload my log anywhere?
No, not by default. Your ADIF log is stored locally. Optional ClubLog and QRZ uploads only run when you explicitly enable and configure them.
How do I manage or cancel my Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Manage or cancel anytime in System Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Troubleshooting
No decodes appear in FTAlert
1. In WSJT-X, confirm Settings → Reporting has the UDP server enabled on the port you set in FTAlert.
2. In MSHV, confirm Network → UDP Broadcast → Enable Decoded Text is on and pointed at 127.0.0.1:2237.
3. Restart both apps. On first run, macOS may prompt for local-network permission — allow it.
Alerts fire for stations I've already worked
Import a current ADIF export from your logger. FTAlert uses your worked index to determine B4 and new DXCC; stale logs cause false positives.
Notifications aren't showing
Check that notifications are enabled for FTAlert in System Settings → Notifications, and that the app isn't set to Do Not Disturb.
Location Services prompt appears
FTAlert can use your location on-device to determine your grid square for distance-aware alerts. It's optional — you can decline and enter a grid manually.
